How to measure your ring size:

The two simplest ways to gauge your ring size are by either circumference or by diameter.

  • The circumference of a ring measures the length around the circle. To measure : wrap a narrow strip of paper comfortably around your finger, mark the end, and measure the distance.
  • The diameter of a ring measures the distance across the middle inside, which can be used to gauge your ring size from ring you are already wearing.

For either measure, you can read off the appropriate sizing standard for Australia, UK and Ireland, the European Union, French, American, Swiss, Japanese or German. Of course when quoting your ring size please remember to specify which standard you are using. Note also that this system can only be used as a guide. Your local jeweller is best placed to measure your finger or ring sizes.

European The most straightforward, the European system of ring sizing, uses whole sizes equivalent to ring circumference in millimeters. mm=EU
French The European standard in quarter sizes. mm=FR
Swiss Another commonly used variation of the European system: European minus forty. mm=CH+40
Australian, UK & Ireland Starting at C for forty millimeters, the British Standard uses alphabetic letters for each 1.25mm of ring circumference with half sizes in between. mm=(UK*1.25)+36.3
American Still based on old American inch (1.02”), the American ring size represents one tenth of an inch in circumference – further divided into quarter sizes. in=(US*.102)+1.43

Japanese Starting at thirteen millimeters inside diameter the Japanese ring standards progresses in one third of millimeter sizes. mm=(JP+38)/3
German The German standard is equivalent to the metric inside diameter in quarter sizes. mm=DE
